Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold delegation level talks with President of Seychelles, Danny Antoine Rollen Faure in New Delhi today.
During the meeting, both the leaders are expected to discuss and review the wide-ranging cooperation between the two countries, including in the fields of defence and security.
AIR correspondent reports that, after the talks, several agreements are also expected to be signed.
India and Seychelles will look to further strengthen their economic and strategic ties during the talks.
India will also try to persuade Seychelles to stay the course with a 2015 agreement, which allows New Delhi to develop a strategic facility on the Assomption Island.
The pact to build the coastguard facility was signed in 2015 during Mr Modi’s visit to Seychelles.
Minister of External Affairs will be handing over a second Dornier maritime reconnaissance aircraft to Mr Faure tomorrow, in line with its record of helping Seychelles monitor its 1.3 million sq. km exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
Almost 50 per cent of Seychelles’ military assets have been supplied by India, besides providing training to 70 per cent of its military personnel. India has gifted the Seychelles Coast Guard a fast track vessel, a Dornier aircraft, and two helicopters.
The visiting dignitary will be accorded Ceremonial Reception at the Rashtrapati Bhawan this morning. He will also meet President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and External Affairs Sushma Swaraj.
On a Six-day visit to India, Mr Faure arrived in New Delhi yesterday after visiting Ahmedabad and Goa.
