In the cult movie Thoovanathumbikal, the chief protagonist Jayakrishnan’s passion is always associated with rain, creating a stunning and deep imagery. Not just movies, every single genre of art has paid rain and its myriad moods a tribute.
And, now it’s the turn of Kerala Tourism Department to explore the beauty of monsoon. Gifting the city dwellers an opportunity to soak in monsoon ragas, the department will organise Nishagandhi Monsoon Music Festival in the city next month. The event will be held at Kanakakkunnu Palace Grounds gifting the connoisseurs of music magical nights of musical brilliance.
Speaking to Express, a senior Tourism Department officer said Nishagandhi will host renowned musicians from across the country this July.“The department has earmarked a sum of Rs 1 crore for the festival and is in the process of holding talks with eminent artistes in the country to stage performances. Based on the availability of artistes, the date would be fixed, “he said.
A dance festival would also be organised as part of the event. The extravaganza will feature some mainstream and traditional Indian and exotic music forms.Though the department had organised monsoon music and dance festival a couple of years ago, it couldn’t organise the monsoon music festival last year due to various reasons.
The reintroduction of monsoon music festival assumes significance considering the surge in domestic tourist arrival to Thiruvananthapuram of late. The three months of the current year has seen as many as 6,93,231 domestic tourists visiting the capital city, an up of 23.73 per cent against the tourist inflow recorded during the corresponding period a year ago. However, there was a dip of minus 4.51 per cent in foreign tourist arrival to the capital city during this period.
