Car accident results in more than 4000 power outages in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) - At approximately 10 p.m. on Sunday night New Haven residents began reporting power outages in the George Street area. 

The United Illuminating Company has confirmed that the more than 4000 outages are a result of a car crash near the intersection of Ella T. Grasso Boulevard and Chapel Street that knocked down numerous power lines.

UI crews are heading to the scene now and they hope to restore power to the majority of customers by Monday morning.
