A property on Riverslea Rd, Hastings, was the site of a brutal gang-related axe attack on the night of Wednesday, June 13.

A 25-year-old man has been charged in relation to an axe attack which left two people in hospital.

On Monday, a police spokeswoman said the Hastings man was charged with two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

It follows on from the arrest of a 33-year-old man last week on identical charges. He was remanded in custody to reappear on July 10.

Detective Sergeant Darren Pritchard said no one else was being sought in relation to the alleged unprovoked attack, which occurred earlier this month.

On June 13, Hawke's Bay police were called to a residential address on Riverslea Rd in Hastings, about 8pm, after reports of an assault.

The incident left two men in hospital. One in his early 20s, in a stable condition, was transferred to Wellington Hospital for treatment.

Pritchard said the two victims still required hospital treatment and would be making slow recoveries from their injuries.

The 25-year-old man is due to appear in Hastings District Court on Tuesday.
