BARGARH: A septuagenarian committed suicide after killing his 56-year-old son over a land dispute at Raypada, a hamlet of Paharsirgida village within Attabira police limits in the district late on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Pinke Baria and his son Pinke Subarao. Reports said Baria attacked his son with an axe while he was asleep outside his house, killing him on the spot.

Subsequently, Baria went to his cow-shed and committed suicide by hanging himself. The matter came to light after the villagers found the body of Baria hanging inside the cow-shed on Sunday morning. Soon after finding the body, the villages went to Baria’s house to inform his family members about the incident. However, they found Subarao’s body lying in a pool of blood outside his house.

On being informed, Bargarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Suresh Nayak and Inspector-in-Charge of Attabira police station Gouranga Charan Sahu rushed to the village to take stock of the situation. Sahu said the father-son duo had a bitter relationship over a land dispute. The matter is being investigated by the police and a case has been registered. The bodies of the two have been handed over to the family members after autopsy.
