Agitating lawyers of the Rajasthan High Court here today decided to suspended their strike following assurance from Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje that no committee will be formed to look into the demand for a new bench in Udaipur, the president of Rajasthan HC Lawyers Association Kuldeep Mathur said.
The advocates from Jodhpur, who have been on strike since May 21, would resume work in the court from tomorrow. The decision was taken after a general house meeting of the advocates at the Library Hall of the court on this morning.
After the meeting, Mathur said, "The strike has been suspended after the assurance from the chief minister that no committee would be formed with regard to the circuit bench at Udaipur at the cost of the interest of the principal seat of the Rajasthan High Court at Jodhpur."
He, however, warned, "If anything happens against our interest in the future, we would resume the strike in order to protect the identity of Jodhpur as the judicial capital of the state."
On May 19, Raje had ordered officials concerned to form a committee under the chairmanship of state Law Minister Pushpendra Singh Ranawat to look into the demand of the advocates of Udaipur for a circuit bench of the high court there.
The advocates from Jodhpur are on strike since May 21 against the order of the chief minister to form a committee. However on June 16, Ranawat had told a delegation of Jodhpur advocates that no such committee has ever been formed.
Raje, during her visit to Jodhpur on June 22 had assured the agitating lawyers that no committee has so far been constituted, and even if it happened in the future, there would not be any injustice to them.
