Possibility of thundery development on June 26

Parts of the Capital continued to experience heat wave-like condition on Sunday with the maximum temperature settling at 42.2 degrees Celsius which is five degrees above the normal for this time of the year.

The minimum settled at 31.6 degrees Celsius three degrees above the normal. Palam was the hottest area in the city with a maximum of 44 degrees Celsius.

However, the prolonged spell of above normal temperatures is likely to end this week.

Cloudy from June 27

The MeT department has forecast a partly cloudy sky becoming generally cloudy sky from June 27 onwards.

“Strong surface winds likely during the day time during next 48 hours. Possibility of thundery development on June 26. Thunderstorm with rain likely to occur June 27 and June 28,” said Met.

Since June 1, the city has received only 4.7 mm or rainfall which is 30.6mm less than the normal for the month.

This caused hot spell and dust in the air that impacted the quality of air in the Capital.

The maximum temperature that has been constantly above the 40 degree Celsius mark is likely to fall below that mark by June 27.
