LUDHIANA: A tractor ran over a 55-year-old man while cleaning a pond in Ranwaan village of
Machhiwara on Sunday.
“Pal Singh, a resident of the village and daily-wager, was aiding the pond cleaning work. When a tractor-trolley was removing sand from the pond, its tailgate came undone and hit Singh. As he fell on the ground, another tractor ran over him. Singh died on the spot,” said a cop.
The workers called up the police, who took Singh to civil hospital. But he was declared brought dead. “The body would be handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination,” the police added.
Machhiwara police station SHO Surinder Pal Singh said, “We have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC.”
