LUDHIANA: Three days after the investigation wing of the state taxation department confiscated 'pan masala' worth lakhs, the kingpin of the racket has been traced by its sleuths in Jalandhar.
Under instructions from the join director HPS Ghotra, the teams of tax department officials from Ludhiana inspected Jalandhar-based Rama Army Store on Monday.

According to sources, the department has seized a huge cache of documents from the premises of the said firm which point towards massive tax evasion in addition to tax evaded on the 2 truck loads of pan masala which was seized in Ludhiana on June 22.

Sources also added that the suspect used to show sale-purchase worth Rs 20-22 lakhs per month and also filed his returns but paid no taxes.

Speaking to TOI, Ghotra said, “Today a team of our department has started inspection at Rama Army Store, Jalandhar in connection with the 2 trucks of without bill pan masala seized by use recently. As per the inputs, this company is distributor of a leading brand of pan masala which was found in the trucks. In regards to the exact amount of tax evaded and the modus operandi, our team has gathered a lot of evidence which will be analysed further to reach a conclusion.”
