A motorcyclist is in serious but stable condition after a Saturday afternoon wreck, according to police. A warrant has been issued for reckless driving and drug charges.

Police said 20-year-old Claymont resident Atiba Fields around 2:45 p.m. was traveling southbound on a a 2012 Kawasaki motorcycle sport bike at an apparent high rate of speed in the right lane of Del. 141 approaching the intersection of Alapocas Drive north of Wilmington.

At the same time, a 2004 Dodge Dakota, driven by John J. Devine, a 76-year-old from Wilmington, was traveling northbound in the left turn lane on Del. 141 at the intersection.

As the Dodge made the left turn at the intersection it was struck on the front right side while crossing the southbound lanes by the front of the Kawasaki sport bike. The motorcycle came to a stop at the entrance of the DuPont driving range and the Dodge Dakota was pushed southbound, stopping on the right shoulder, police said.

The force of the collision caused Fields to be ejected onto the right shoulder, police said.

Devine sustained non-life threatening injuries a result of this crash, police said.

The operator of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet. He was transported by the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit to the Christiana Hospital.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police.
