Strasburg Village Council
June 19 meeting
KEY ACTION Adopted an ordinance approving the proposed Strasburg-Franklin Joint Economic Development contract and district. It was passed unanimously by emergency measure.
DISCUSSION Council and the Franklin Township trustees held a public hearing, May 29, on the proposed Strasburg-Franklin Joint Economic Development contract and district. The village and township will promote economic development in the Route 250/21 corridor north of the village, leading to tax and utility revenue for the village and additional job opportunities for village residents. Mayor John Bitikofer said the project is moving forward and Engineer Don Dummermuth is doing the design phase of the project.
OTHER ACTION
n Adopted a resolution accepting the 2018 Enterprise Zone annual report and accepting the tax-incentive review council’s recommendations, dated March 30, regarding all active enterprise zone agreements.
n Agreed to purchase a server upgrade for the police computer. Cost from Frontier is $4,240. It was the lone bid. The current program was 10 years old and was causing problems in seeking information needed by the police.
n Learned the paving is almost completed in the village and the remainder of the paving will be done in the fall. Mayor John Bitikofer lauded Newton Asphalt for the good paving job they did in the village.
n Heard Gessner Sealrite is patching the walking track and is expected to complete the job by July 4.
n Heard applications are being accepted for crossing guard positions for the 2018-19 school year. Two crossing guards and an alternate will be hired. Applications are available at village hall or online at villageofstrasburg.org. Deadline for applications is July 15.

n The annual Corn Fest will be held July 27-28 in Franklin Park. The fun kicks off July 27 at 5 p.m. On July 28 the event begins at 8 a.m. with a three-on-three basketball tournament and softball games. The midway opens at 11. There is charcoal roasted corn, a variety of food, entertainment and a beer garden and many games and activities on tap.
