BHUBANESWAR: Vigilance officers on Saturday conducted simultaneous searches in the properties of Divisional Forest Officer posted at Ghumusar (south) in Ganjam district’s Bhanjanagar, for allegedly having assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Vigilance sleuths of Berhampur division conducted simultaneous searches at DFO Bijoy Ketan Acharya’s three-storey buildings in Patia and Saheed Nagar, another building at Kalyan Nagar in Cuttack, Government quarters in Bhanjanagar and his office chamber in Ghumusar. During the searches, the anti-corruption agency traced Acharya’s immovable assets, including advance payment made towards purchasing a flat in Patia and homestead plots in Capital’s Madanpur, Patia, Badaraghunathpur and Janla areas. The total amount of the DFO’s immovable property was estimated to be over Rs  one crore.

Acharya was found to have deposits of over Rs 99.88 lakh in different banks, in post office over Rs 29.26 lakh, in insurance policies over Rs 22.84 lakh, investment in mutual funds and shares amounting to Rs 17.14 lakh, household articles worth over Rs 9.11 lakh, gold ornaments and one gold biscuit amounting to Rs 6.5 lakh, cash over Rs 1.89 lakh, one scooter and one motorcycle.

“Acharya’s total immovable and movable assets have been estimated to be over Rs 3.48 crore. Besides, Acharya’s locker at Canara Bank’s Patia branch and a locker at State Bank of India’s Patia branch are yet to be opened. Further investigation into the matter is on,” a Vigilance officer said.
