Bengaluru: Awareness rally against drugs, trafficking

BENGALURU: ST. Joseph’s Pre-University college is organising a rally on spreading awareness against drugs and human trafficking, focussing especially on the girl child. The rally is being organised on June 26,  between 9 am to 12 noon. The rally will commence from St. Joseph’s Boys’ High School at 10am and move on to St Mark’s Road up to the LIC building near Anil Kumble circle. 

The students will be accompanied by the staff and then will march down to MG Road, before coming on to Residency Road, finally culminating at the War Memorial at Brigade Road Junction. Believing in the concern for human life, the principal of the institution, Fr. Melvin Lobo says, “It is not surprising that the teenagers who use drugs often have a poor academic record, poor mental health and activities leading to crime. Preventing drug addiction among the youth through awareness programmes will help them to shape their perception about the substance abuse.” 

He further added, “Trafficking of girls is quite prevalent throughout the world and millions of girls are traded every year. In India, more than 20,000 children are forced into domestic violence, flesh trade and forced marriage. The rally is going to provoke voices and throw light on infusing unity among the youth.”
