A two-vehicle crash stopped traffic for about 45 minutes in Mesa Verde National Park on Saturday.

Mancos Fire and Rescue, a Southwest Health System ambulance and Mesa Verde rangers responded about 3 p.m. to a report of a crash near Mile 7 on the park’s main road.

The park’s public information officer, Cristy Brown, said an RV collided with a motorcycle in the area. Traffic was stopped in both directions on the winding road until about 3:45 p.m.

Brown said both vehicles escaped the collision with minimal damage. She would not confirm whether either driver had been injured, although a Southwest Health ambulance left the scene with its lights on at 3:39 p.m. Brown also declined to give the names of the drivers, and said park staff didn’t know what caused the crash.

She said the park staff would release more information as it became available.

In addition to the crash, the park’s ambulance crew and other emergency personnel were busy Saturday with heat-related medical emergencies, Brown said. She urged visitors to stay hydrated and avoid being in the sun too long while at the park.
