The police on Friday arrested a person who claimed to be a journalist after he assaulted a sub-inspector.
Sources said Vimaleeswaran, who claimed to be an assistant of a journalist working for a Tamil weekly, came to meet Assistant Commissioner of Police, Nungambakkam. Sub-inspector Gopi told him that the AC was away at a meeting. While the SI tried to move away, Mr. Vimaleeswaran apparently picked up a quarrel and roughed him up.
The SI was roughed up by Vimaleeswaran. Other police personnel overpowered him and he was arrested. The SI was admitted to hospital for treatment. Further investigation is on.
