Man killed as truck crashes into tea stall

Namakkal: A 31-year-old was killed as a mini truck, which was driven by a drunken man, crashed into a roadside tea stall near Vallipuram on Namakkal-Karur national highway here on Saturday night.
According to police, Kannan, of Keerambur village, was having tea at the shop near Vallipuram when the mini truck bearing Karnataka registration number drifted away from the road and crashed into the shop.

“Kannan was trapped in the tea shop and suffered grievous injuries. He died on the spot,’’ the police said.

Local people caught the truck driver, identified as Balakrishnan, of Vedasandur near Dindigul, and thrashed him. When alerted, the police arrested Balakrishnan.

The truck was transporting components for tractors from Bengaluru to Madurai, the police said.
