Smuggling bid foiled, liquor worth Rs 7 lakh seized

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Police have seized 1,270 cartons of India-made foreign liquor, worth Rs 7 lakh, which were being smuggled in a truck in Panipat on Saturday and arrested its driver. The seized liquor was smuggled from Punjab to Muzaffarpur in Uttar Pradesh.
A police official said a team of the crime investigation agency (CIA) intercepted the truck on a tip-off. “We caught it near Chandoli Adda, under the jurisdiction of Sadar police station, Panipat,” he said.

The accused has been identified as Parvesh, a native of Garhi Sisana, Sonipat.A case under Excise Act and relevant sections of IPC has been registered against him.
