MADURAI: Hearing an anticipatory bail petition filed by Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) leader T Velmurugan, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court passed an interim order directing the police not to arrest him till June 29.

Velmurugan was apprehending arrest at the hands of the Dindigul police in connection with a case relating to some unidentified people setting ablaze a TASMAC vehicle, resulting in loss of liquor worth `7.45 lakh.
However, Velmurugan submitted that he was in no way connected to the incident as he was in judicial custody since May 26 in connection with two other cases. After he was granted bail by the Madras High Court on the above-mentioned cases on June 18, Velmurugan approached the Madurai High Court Bench, seeking anticipatory bail.

As the Additional Advocate General, who appeared on behalf of the State, sought time to prove Velmurugan’s connection to the offence, the court passed an interim order to the police directing them not to arrest Velmurugan till June 29.
