Thiruvananthapuram: After two years of uncertainty, the
multi-specialty block of the Government Medical College here will start functioning in a month. Though the new block was inaugurated two years ago, it wasn’t open to patients as it lacked approval certificated by fire force and pollution control board.
“As directed by fire force, the required equipment for ICU has been purchased. We have also received government order to appoint required number of hospital staff. Once the block gets the building number, we will conduct a trial run to check the electricity and water supply in the block,” said Principal Dr Thomas Mathew.
The hospital has informed the government about the requirement of additional staff, said superintendent Dr Sharmmad. “As per our need, the government order to appoint 183 temporary employees has been received. The health minister had assured that she will appoint more employees if the hospital needs additional staff when it starts functioning and has directed for the speedy construction of the multi-specialty block. We are hopeful that the new block will start functioning in a month,” he added. tnn
