BHOPAL:
Madhya Pradesh police on Sunday arrested
Ahmad Bux Siddiqui alias
Al Makki – the Bangladeshi national who had escaped from the police custody in
Gwalior district from Hyderabad. A special team is bringing him back to MP, sources said. Makki was kept in detention for deportation when escaped.
He was escorted to a local mosque by two constables for namaz after which he disappeared on Wednesday, said police. He was convicted for violating
Foreigners Act and sentenced to three years imprisonment.
He was released from jail a few weeks ago and was kept at a detention centre under Gwalior’s
Padav police station over pending deportation formalities. Ahmed, 33, resident of Dakka, was arrested while trying to buy a SIM using forged documents from Gwalior town. An iPhone and a tablet were confiscated from his possession.
He was charged under various sections of Foreigners Act. During interrogation he had alleged paying Rs 1700 to a security personnel for the trespass. His movements after entering India were also found suspicious. Investigations revealed that he had travelled to Delhi, Chennai and other places before he was caught in Gwalior.
Ahmed was taken on police remand and interrogated by state and central intelligence agencies considering his visits around defence. He had entered India seven months before his arrest through porous India-Bangladesh border.
Ahmed had been travelling in India without valid documents for long. Ahmed had also told police that he was in Saudi Arabia where he was convicted for a year in a theft case. He then came to Bangladesh and sneaked into India.
Ahmad told interrogators that he had an ailing mother and sister in Bangladesh and they were sending money to him. Gwalior police have registered a fresh case against him and alerted police across all the regions for his arrest. “We would be interrogating him again to assert reasons behind his escape bid. Action would be taken against all those who helped him,” said Navneet Bhasin, the Gwalior SP.
