Nagpur: Kamptee-based jeweller Mayur Gurav suffered a loss of valuables worth nearly Rs20 lakh when an unidentified man walked away with his bag from the shop at Guroli on Sunday. CCTV footage confirmed the theft had taken place, in less than 40 seconds.
Police said Gurav had opened the iron shutter of his shop and kept his black bag on the table near the counter. He went to the other side of the shop to open the shutter in that direction, when the incident took place.
The unidentified thief, wearing a cap and also trying to keep his face hidden behind his hand, seemed to have earlier inserted some material inside the lock, which had jammed. As Gurav was struggling to insert the key, the thief found ample time to walk away with the bag, having entered the shop within a minute of the owner opening the front shutter.
Police feel that some insiders are involved in the theft as it had taken place with surprising precision, especially the manner in which the thief stealthily moved in as Gurav went to the other side to open the shutter. An old employee of the shop, who had left the job around a couple of months ago, is now under police scanner.
The unidentified thief later sat on his accomplice’s bike, waiting outside the shop, and fled the spot. CCTV footage has confirmed they fled towards Kalamna. Old Kamptee police have registered a case of theft.
