DAYTONA BEACH — Two people were shot Friday night at a U.S. 1 motel and police announced Saturday they have arrested two people — including one of those who was shot.
A man and woman were injured with shotgun pellets around 9:20 p.m. during an argument at the Heritage Inn, 1100 S. Ridgewood Ave., and both were taken to Halifax Health Medical Center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Daytona Beach Police Department.
The suspected shooter, Heath Banner, 43, of Daytona Beach, was charged with two counts of aggravated battery against a person using a deadly weapon.
Police spokeswoman Lyda Longa said the other person charged, 50-year-old Fredrick Peters, of Daytona Beach, showed Banner his handgun, which was tucked inside his waistband.
Peters was charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Police said Peters confronted Banner outside Room 26 of the motel, at which time Banner pulled out a shotgun and shot at Peters, injuring him and the woman he was with, Deborah Peters.
Longa said Fredrick Peters identified Deborah Peters as his girlfriend.
Bail information on both suspects were not available Saturday.
