The disqualified MLAs have approached the Supreme Court with a plea to transfer the case to the apex court instead of allowing a third judge of the Madras High Court to hear the petitions.

Expressing confidence in the judiciary, Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) founder T.T.V. Dhinakaran said on Sunday that his party will get a favourable judgment in the 18 MLAs disqualification case.

Addressing party workers at a public meeting here on Sunday evening, he said that the disqualified MLAs had approached the Supreme Court against the Assembly Speaker’s decision after a split verdict was delivered by the first Division Bench of the Madras High Court in the disqualification case here recently.

“Even if the verdict is against us, we will contest under the ‘pressure cooker’ symbol and win the elections,” he added. Replying to the Chief Minister’s question “Who is Dhinakaran?”, he said that everyone knew how Edappadi K. Palaniswami became the Chief Minister.

“If I am not in the party, why should they give a petition to the Election Commission stating that I am the general secretary of the AIADMK,” he asked. He also recalled how Mr. Palaniswami and other Ministers campaigned for him in the R.K. Nagar by-election. He said that all those who were with the Edappadi and OPS camp for power would join AMMK soon.

It is learnt that the disqualified MLAs have approached the Supreme Court with a plea to transfer the case to the apex court instead of allowing a third judge of the Madras High Court to hear the petitions. The disqualified legislators have not spelt out the reason for their prayer.
