Roseanne Barr is ready to say sorry.
After the hit Roseanne revival was canceled -- and then ABC ordered a spin-off without her involvement -- over a racist tweet aimed at former Obama Administration official Valerie Jarrett, Barr has spoken up to share her remorse over the comment that cost her everything.
Barr has offered several differing reasons for her offensive remark, from denying that she meant it to be racist to infamously blaming it on her use of sleep aid medication, and she continued that narrative in a tearful podcast interview (as reported by Us Weekly) on Saturday by claiming that she didn't know Jarrett was black when she wrote, "muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj."
More importantly, though, she discussed her remorse for the pain and suffering it caused to those offended by her words and those whose jobs were put in jeopardy by them.
"I didn't mean what they think I meant, and that's what's so painful. But I have to face that this hurt people -- and when you hurt people, even unwittingly, there's no excuse, so I don't want to blabber off on excuses. I apologize to anyone who thought or felt offended and thought that I meant something that I, in fact, did not mean to my own ignorance," Barr said. "I definitely feel remorse."
The Conners is expected to debut on Tuesdays this fall at 8/7c, sans the family matriarch.
