Growing consumer despair over easily-smashed mobile phones has proved to be a boon for British smartphone maker Bullitt, whose rugged devices have led the company to a 50pc increase in sales.
Reading-based Bullitt, which makes durable phones bearing the JCB, Caterpillar and Land Rover brands, posted revenues of $200.7m (£151m) in 2017, up from $134.7m in the previous year.
The increase bucks an industry trend of flat sales. Global sales of smartphones fell 0.5pc last year according to IDC, the first decline on record as rising prices force consumers hold onto their handsets for longer.
