GORAKHPUR: A 12-year-old boy was forced to take his ailing grandmother to the community health centre at Vikramjot in Basti on a trycycle cart on Friday when the ambulance did not arrive in time.
As per reports, 12-year-old Chhotu, son of Ashok Kumar, was alone with his 85-year-old grandmother Anara Devi at his home at Kamalpur village on Friday afternoon, when the latter’s health deteriorated suddenly. As per reports, Anara Devi was having difficulty in breathing.

His neighbours called ambulance but it didn’t come. As his grandmother’s condition was deteriorating fast, Chhotu took his grandmother to the Vikramjot community health centre (CHC), around 3km away from his village, on a tricycle cart.

Anara Devi is currently undergoing treatment at the CHC.

“My grandmother was in distress and her condition was deteriorating with every passing minute. My neighbours called a government ambulance but it didn’t come in time. I waited for some time and then decided to take her to the CHC on a tricycle cart which was parked near my house,” said Chhotu.

Anara Devi’s son Ashok Kumar, who is a daily wage labourer, said, “My financial condition is not good. My son took her to the CHC when I was not at home.”

On coming to know about the incident, district magistrate in charge Arvind Padey ordered the chief medical officer to submit a report on the incident within two days. “A probe has been ordered. The CMO has been directed to submit a report within two days. We will take action against on the basis of the report,” Pandey said.
