One person has been critically injured in a two-vehicle car crash north of Auckland. 

A police spokeswoman said emergency services were called to the Takatu Rd crash in Tawharanui at 12.19pm on Sunday.

"It appears four people have been injured – one critically," she said. 

St John ambulance attended with six vehicles and treated six patients, one with critical injuries, three moderate, and one minor. One person was not injured. 

The Northland Rescue Helicopter was also attending, she said.
