Wrong-way driver to blame for serious Kirtland Hills crash

The Ohio Highway Patrol on June 24 issued a news release stating a driver heading east in the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 in Kirtland Hills caused a two-vehicle wreck resulting in serious injuries shortly before 3 a.m. June 24.

According to the release, Ohio Highway Patrol troopers were called to the scene of the wrong-way wreck about 2:56 a.m. It happened at milepost 195, just east of Ohio Route 306.

“A 2015 Toyota Rav 4 driven by Willard Burge IV, 33 years old, of Wickliffe, Ohio, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes just east of State Route 306. Erin E. Stockdale, 32 years old, of Concord Township was a passenger in the right front seat,” the release reads. “Mr. Burge was transported from the scene by Concord Fire/EMS to Tri Point Medical Center with minor injuries. Both occupants were wearing their safety belts.”

The news release continues: “A 2011 Chevrolet Impala driven by Samia A. Campagna, 56 years old, of Alliance, Ohio was traveling westbound on Interstate 90 and was struck head-on by the Toyota Rav 4. Ms. Campagna was transported from the scene by Kirtland Fire/EMS to Hillcrest Hospital with incapacitating injuries. Ms. Campagna was wearing her safety belt.”

The Ohio Highway Patrol reports that the Kirtland Fire Department and Kirtland Hills Police Department assisted at the scene of the crash, which remains under investigation.

According to the news release, alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
