KOLKATA: Howrah Rural Police has finally received the post-mortem report of businessman Shibaji Roy, who died in a car crash on June 3. The report said the businessman had suffered around 40 fractures in his chest and below.

The report adds that Roy lost his life because of these fractures. The post-mortem will now be forwarded to the forensic experts so that they can examine the medical report while arriving at more specific conclusions.

The investigators probing the case have claimed the findings again prove the car was at a very high speed at the time of the accident. “The car’s speed might have been checked while it climbed on to the bridge. But the fact remains that we had a tough time trying to rush him to hospital from the mangled remains of the car. Hence, the forensic experts will be keeping that in mind while they use the report to arrive at their conclusions,” said a police source.

Cops said its probe findings will be mainly technical in nature based on forensic and medical evidence. “We are in no hurry. Except for the forensic reports that are awaited, we are almost done with the investigations. The statements recorded have been incomplete, but that won’t matter when we submit our final report,” said the police source.

Sources said while it is certain that the anti-lock braking system was the most important item under investigation, it is certain from the skid marks that the veering towards the right came at a fraction of second late,” concluded an official. The recording of statements of the police has not pointed to any witness or the presence of the obstacle. Thus, cops said there is no other way but little but to wait for Surana to record her statement as the lone witness.

Despite driving at 130km per hour at the time of accident, experts say the driver was in control mode, thereby locking his maximum speed. “A momentary error is the most likely cause of accident by either the driver or his obstacle. It definitely is not a case of uncontrolled speed,” claimed an officer.
