TRICHY: After securing sixth rank in
Swachh Survekshan 2017,
Trichy City Corporation sustained a severe blow in the Swachh Survekshan 2018 ranking that was released on Saturday with the city placed at 13th spot. Though Trichy was adjudged as cleanest city among Tamil Nadu cities with Coimbatore ranked behind Trichy at 16th place, civic body here is in no mood to celebrate the slip in cleanliness ranking.
As the ranking was carried out on three different categories including Service Level Progress (documentation), direct observation, and citizen feedback, comparatively scored well in direct observation and citizen feedback categories, Trichy lost ample marks in documentation. Out of total 4,000 marks, Trichy by scoring 3,352 was placed below Tirupati, Navi Mumbai, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Ahmedabad, and Pune, the cities that Trichy outranked in last year’s cleanliness survey.
“There is no way for us to score such low marks (961/1,400 marks) in service level progress category. We are planning to write to the Mission Director of Swachh Bharat Mission expressing our concern to review our score secured in documentation,” Trichy Corporation Commissioner N Ravichandran told TOI. Corporation sources said that they expected to score at least 1,250 marks in the category and an overall ranking in top 10 spots.
