President Ram Nath Kovind has concluded his tour to Greece, Suriname and Cuba and is on his way back home. Briefing media Secretary East, in the Ministry of External Affairs Priti Saran said that the tour was successful. She said the President's tour to Suriname coincided with the 145th anniversary of the arrival of Indians to the country. Ms Saran said, Suriname President handed over instruments of ratification for International Solar Alliance.
She said that India announced Lines of Credit of over 27 million dollars for up-gradation of transmission network, over 3 million dollars for maintenance of Chetak helicopters and 20 million dollars for solar energy projects in 49 villages.
On Cuba visit she said, India has very strong, cordial & friendly relations with the country. They both are founding members of the Non-Aligned Movement, both have stood for South-South solidarity. She said the two countries have collaborated very closely in UN and other forums. India and Cuba signed two MoUs in the field of biotechnology, traditional medicine and homeopathy.The agreements were inked following delegation-level talks between President Ram Nath Kovind and his Cuban counterpart Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel at Revolution Palace in Havana yesterday. Cuba also reiterated its support to India's candidature for a permanent seat in UN Security Council The President gave a keynote speech at the Havana University. Mr Kovind also visited the Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology where he saw Power Point Presentation on Cuban pharmaceutical industry.
He paid tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. He also paid his respects to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti at his memorial at Revolution Square.
