GURUGRAM: A biker suffered grievous injuries after a
car hit another stationary car near which he had stopped his scooty, on Gold Course Road on Thursday. The driver of the car, who is suspected to have been drunk at the time of the
collision, was arrested and released on bail.
The accused has been identified as Sandeep (24), a resident of Maruti Vihar, Chakkarpur. According to police, a woman working with a media house in Connaught Place, Delhi, had stopped her grey Maruti Celerio in front of a store near the Sector 42 Rapid Metro station to buy a bottle of water around 8.30pm on Thursday. She deboarded and went inside the store.
Meanwhile, a man also stopped his scooty near her car to attend a call.
“While I was still inside the shop, I heard sounds of a collision. I looked outside and saw that a white Celerio had rammed into my car. The collision pushed my car towards the scooty, and the man on it fell on the road, grievously injured. All three vehicles were damaged. I thank god that I was not inside the car or I wouldn’t have been saved, because the man who was driving the car seemed to be heavily drunk,” the woman said.
Soon, passersby gathered there and informed police. While they nabbed Sandeep, another man who was present in his car managed to escape. The injured man was taken to a nearby hospital, and is reported to be stable now. Cops reached the spot and took Sandeep and his car into custody.
On a basis of a complaint filed by the woman, an FIR was registered against the accused under sections 279 (rash driving), 337(causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety) and 427 (causing damage) of the IPC at Sushant Lok police station on Friday.
The same day, he was produced in a city court, which granted him bail. Cops said they would add the IPC section of
drunken driving in the FIR following the report of his medical examination.
“We arrested the accused as soon as possible. His medical examination report is pending, and if the report finds out that he was drunk at the time, the relevant section will be added in the FIR,” said sub-inspector Rajesh Kumar, additional SHO of Sushant Lok police station.
