Major waste material fire in Londonderry

Dozens of fire fighters are dealing with a major fire at a shed containing waste material in Londonderry.

The Northern Ireland Fire Service (NIFRS) were dispatched to Gillen Fuels on the Heather road on Saturday evening.

A spokesperson for the fire services said the fire involved "a large shed containing large volumes of waste material".

Police have advised motorists to stay away from the area.

Anyone living in the vicinity of the plant have also been asked to keep their windows and doors closed.

A total of 58 fire personnel are involved in fighting the blaze.

A PSNI spokesperson said the Heather Road is expected to remain closed for some time and the fire service are continuing to deal with the incident.
