Victim sustained burn injuries; three accused on the run

A 32-year-old woman sustained burn injuries after she was attacked with an unknown liquid allegedly by her in-laws in outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri on Friday. The police have arrested a woman in the case.

Additional DCP (Outer) Rajendra Singh Sagar said that the victim Shabnam was attacked by her brother-in-law Shamsuddin, his wife Nazmeen and her two brothers Javed and Sona. Nazmeen has been arrested, while the others are absconding, he said.

The police said that the accused allegedly threw a liquid on Ms. Shabnam that led to burn injuries on her face and chest. She was admitted to a nearby hospital and later referred to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where she is currently undergoing treatment.

“During investigation, it was revealed that the victim and her husband Salimuddin have been at loggerheads with Mr. Shamsuddin and Ms. Nazmeen over a property dispute. Three cases have been registered by the accused against the victim and her husband in the past,” Mr. Sagar said.

On Friday, an argument ensued between the two brothers after which the wives got involved and Ms. Nazmeen allegedly threw the liquid at Ms. Shabnam.

The police have registered a case under IPC Sections 326A (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid) and 34 (common intention).

A hunt is on to arrest the absconding accused.
