Cotton farmers take up resowing in old Adilabad district

The long awaited spell of rainfall finally occurred on Friday and on Saturday farmers started resowing of cotton seeds wherever the seeds were lost due to the prolonged dry spell in old undivided Adilabad district.

Many farmers also took up gap filling operations wherever some cotton seeds had failed to germinate.

Cotton farmers were a worried lot across the four districts owing to the dry spell. Cumulatively only about 40 % of sowing, of a total expected area of nearly 3.5 lakh hectares to be brought under cultivation, had taken place so far of which at least 50 % was lost.

Good inflows

Gudihatnoor and Kadem mandals received about 100 mm of rainfall which brought inflows into the Kadem project to the tune of 1,882 cusecs. If the trend continues the project will fill up in a few weeks.

The present level of water in the reservoir is 684.3 ft and the quantum of water is 4.184 tmcf against the full reservoir level of 700 ft. Last year on this day the reservoir had the water level of 685.65 ft and the quantum of stored water was 4.423 tmcf.
