Most accidents took place because of over speeding, rash and negligent driving

As part of several preventive steps, the authorities have started verifying the general habits and tendencies among the drivers of school buses and autos so that those having questionable record could be barred from driving them.

This has become necessary considering the fact that most of the accidents involving school vehicles took place because of over speeding, rash and negligent driving.

The discipline, punctuality and the good habits of the drivers are a must to ensure the safety of the children as even one small mistake will cost the lives of many innocents.

“The behaviour of the drivers in general should be good. It is being checked if they consume alcohol and whether they have previous bad record,” said Deputy Transport Commissioner N. Sivaramprasad.

In recent months, the autorickshaw drivers had been made to fix safety rods in their vehicles. A massive drive was taken up when they were called to a specified location like the Venkatagiri Rajah’s College grounds for fixing safety rods.

Fitness Certificates were issued to 1,170 school buses while the same was rejected for 300.

The rejections were mainly because of lack of safety measures like emergency doors, speed limit devices, first aid kit, fire extinguisher and so on.
