Victim’s throat slit; locals spotted body by the roadside

A 35-year-old woman, who was the wife of an Army officer, was murdered in west Delhi’s Naraina on Saturday afternoon.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vijay Kumar said that the victim has been identified as Shailja Dwivedi. Sources said that the deceased was the wife of an Army officer, but Mr. Kumar neither denied nor confirmed the information.

Mr. Kumar said that the police were informed about an accident around 1.30 p.m. “The police reached the spot. Initially it looked like an accident but thorough inspection revealed that the women’s throat was slit,” he said, adding that the police have ruled out possibility of a robbery or sexual assault.

“We have got some clues about the suspect. Personal relationships might have played a big role in the murder,” he added.

A senior police officer, privy to the case said that Shailja had left her house in Delhi Cantonment in the morning and had gone to RR Hospital in an Army vehicle for a physiotherapy session. The driver dropped her and left. Shailja left the hospital half an hour later.

Clothes torn

Shailja’s husband went to the police station a few hours later to file a missing complaint. When officers showed him a woman’s photograph he identified her as his wife.

The police were told that the husband of the deceased had gone to work after she left for the hospital. When she did not return home till afternoon, he called her but her phone was switched off. After searching for her at all possible places, the husband approached the police.

The police are obtaining CCTV footage of the spot of the incident and nearby areas. The husband and other relatives of the deceased are also being questioned.
