A 9-year-old boy who had gone missing six years ago at the age of three was finally reunited with his parents on Thursday, the police said on Friday. He had been living with a family from Punjab for the past two years.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Alok Kumar said the boy lived with his parents at Lahori Gate and was reported missing in May 2012.

On Wednesday, the Crime Branch received information that the boy was living with a family in Punjab’s Kapurthala. A team went to Punjab and brought him back to the Capital.

The boy’s father identified him with the help of the scar on his forehead.

When the police questioned the Punjab family how the boy came to live with them, they told the officers that they spotted him on a Bihar-bound train two years ago. They asked him about his parents but he failed to answer their questions. They took him in and made efforts to look for his parents.

“Meanwhile, the police put up posters on the missing boy in Delhi. A neighbour of the Punjab family who was in Delhi recently spotted the posters. She informed the Punjab family about the posters, after which they approached the police,” said Mr. Kumar.
