A motorcyclist was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals for potentially life-threatening injuries after a crash outside Martelle, according to a media release from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
Shortly before 11 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of Highway 1 and Butcher Rd. They found a motorcycle driven by Thomas Auner, 56 of Tiffin, was northbound on Highway 1. A pickup truck driven by Carol Brannaman, 62 of Mount Vernon, was westbound on Butcher Rd. The two vehicles collided in the intersection, according to the release.
Auner was transported by AirCare Helicopter for what are believed to be life-threatening injuries. He did not appear to be wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to the release. Brannaman was transported to the Jones Regional Hospital in Anamosa for what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Martelle Fire, Iowa Highway Patrol, Mount Vernon Ambulance Service, Anamosa Ambulance Service and AirCare responded. The crash remains under investigation.
