LUDHIANA: A tea stall owner was found murdered at his house on Machhiwara-Samrala road on Friday.
Jaggi Sawhney, 55, had been living alone at the one-room accommodation for the past two decades.
“Sawhney ran a tea stall outside his house. On Friday morning, a truck ferrying workers from
Machhiwara to Samrala was going past his house. One of the workers atop the truck saw a body lying on the house roof and called up the police,” said Machhiwara police station SHO Surinderpal Singh.
Police said preliminary investigation suggested that Jaggi was murdered about two days ago as the body was decaying. “His throat is slit. There are no signs of robbery in his house and shop. It indicates rivalry as the cause of murder. Jaggi, a native of
Bihar, was convicted in a theft case in 2012 in Machhiwara. As the nearest residential area is at some distance from his house, neighbours hardly know anything about the killing. There is no information about his family, too,” the SHO added.
Police have registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the
Indian Penal Code (IPC).
