BENGALURU:To celebrate The Dragon Boat Festival – a metaphor for the summer solstice in Chinese culture – Yauatcha has crafted a special menu that captures the essence of this happy festival. We tried the Steamed Sticky Rice with Prawn and Mushroom, as well as the option with chicken – both came wrapped in lotus leaves and were served with dipping sauces. The dim sums, which are like tiny parcels, are mild on flavour and heavy on rice, so be sure not to have your fill of these before moving on to the next dish.

Another dim sum we tried and thoroughly enjoyed were the Fried Carrot Roll with Glutinous Rice in Spicy Sauce. These look great to start with, and the sauce they come in is delicious – midly creamy and full of flavour. Vegetarians, do give the Crispy Mushrooms with Baby Pakchoi a try – the crunchy leaves work well with the variety of mushrooms in the dish. The Prawns, Beans and Edamame stir fry was our favourite, the big, juicy prawns in the sweet and sticky sauce were a great combination.

We tried the Braised Noodle with Mock Meat and Mushrooms next. While the dish was tasty overall, the soya ‘meat’ wasn’t our favourite. The Beetroot Fried Rice we tried next was mild and comforting, and the corn kernels gave the dish some crunch.

The dessert was truly worth the wait – Wine soaked Water Chestnuts and Mango Cake with Sauvignon Blanc Sorbet. The cake was moist and almost too pretty to cut into. We liked the sorbet the best, the rich taste of wine with the bits of mango were a match made in heaven, and truly grabbed the essence of
summer.

The festival is on till June 30.
Cost for two: `2,800
