Four persons, including a suspended police officer, were held on Saturday near Sankarankovil as they were found in possession of fake currency notes worth ₹2.7 lakh.
Following a tip-off, policemen attached to the Sankarankovil town station raided a lodge here. They found four persons — K. Shanmugam, a Sub-Inspector suspended in connection with a murder case, M. Shankar Ganesh, K. Mahalingam, Mohammed Sharif — allegedly trying to circulate fake currency notes.
The police also seized a van used for the crime. On investigation, the police found that the racket had been going on for long circulating fake currency with help from a gang in Kadayanallur. Further investigation is on.
