All donations towards the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund(PMNRF) and the National Defence Fund(NDF) are notified for 100% deduction from taxable income under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act,1961

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has appealed to people to end the stigma associated with widowhood. Addressing a programme in New Delhi today on the occasion of World Widows' Day, he said there is need to change the mindset in this regard. Mr Naidu called for greater participation of NGOs and the corporate sector in the welfare of widows. He also emphasized on the need to educate the children of widows.

On 21 December 2010, the United Nations General Assembly had decided to observe 23 June each year as the International Widows’ Day. The aim was to give special recognition to the situation of widows of all ages, across regions and cultures.
