Kyrgios lost to Federer in the Stuttgart Open semi-final last week but he came close to an upset after taking the world No 1 to two tiebreaks.
The Australian aimed to bounce back at Queen’s and he again reached the last four but Cilic proved a step too far this afternoon.
Federer and Cilic were the best two grass players in 2017 and they met in the Wimbledon final.
But Kyrgios is confident of challenging the pair at the All England Club this season.
“I have played some good tennis and some tough opponents. I have played a lot of three-setters and a lot of tennis,” Kyrgios said.
There are a lot of positives to take after being out for two and a half months
“My body feels pretty good so there are a lot of positives to take after being out for two and a half months.
“Yes, I can, it is a positive.
“I feel pretty untouchable on serve but unfortunately I didn’t have any chance to break at all.”
Neither player had a break point as Cilic progressed to the final at Queen’s to face either Novak Djokovic or Jeremy Chardy.
And Kyrgios was left frustrated with his lack of opportunities.

“It was tough. The worst service game he played was his first of the match,” he added.
“I can maybe have a little look there but I knew his serve was going to be tough.
“I thought he forehand was really good. His serve was good.
“I feel confident of course but there are a lot of good grass court players. Grand Slams are a totally different ball game, best of five sets.”
