Indian envoy visits two US detention facilities where Indian kids held

The Indian officials in the United States have established contact with the authorities in the United States where children of the Indian detainees are being kept separately at detention centres.

“Our Embassy in Washington has established contacts with both the detention facilities. A consular official has visited the detention facility in Oregon and another one is scheduled to visit the detention facility in New Mexico. We are monitoring the situation,” sources said.

According to media reports, 52 Indians are at a detention centre in Oregon while about 45 Indians are at another detention centre in New Mexico.

It is learnt that over a dozen of them are being held at the New Mexico centre for months while the rest of the Indians were brought to the detention centre about a week ago.
