Rajkot: A man attempted self-immolation in Karmal Pipalia village of Kotada Sanghani taluka of Rajkot on Friday night after he was allegedly cheated by his uncle of Rs 50,000.
According to details of the case, Manoj Padalia (22) survived self-immolation bid after he poured kerosene and set himself ablaze. He was taken to the Rajkot Civil Hospital, where his condition is said to be critical.
Police have booked Manoj’s uncle Haka Thummar on the complaint lodged by Manoj’s father Jenti Padalia for driving his son to attempt suicide.
In his complaint Jenti has alleged that Thummar got a woman from Madhya Pradesh (MP) for Manoj as he was looking for a bride. For this, Thummar took Rs 50,000 from Manoj to pay the woman’s parents. Without marriage, the woman started living with Manoj. However, three days ago, the woman left Manoj and went back to her parents’ home in MP.
“Upon investigation, Manoj found that the money he had paid to Thummar had not reached the woman’s parents. When Manoj took up the issue with Thummar, he said it would take another Rs 50,000 to get the woman back. Deeply hurt by this, Manoj attempted self-immolation,” an official from Kotada Sangani police station said.
