Vadodara: MS University Students Union (MSUSU) vice-president (VP) Rati Mehta on Saturday left senate members stunned when she stood up to share her views.
Amid all the chaos and infighting between the rival saffron groups during the senate meeting, Mehta said even students do not behave the way senators do in the meetings.
“Even they (students) do not create such ruckus if a teacher is not present in their class,” she said, stressing that senators need to pay attention on the condition of students on the campus.
Pointing out unhygienic conditions of washrooms across the campus, she said despite her several representations, washrooms still remain unclean.
“Most of the time students are blamed for not attending classes. The ground reality is that when you conduct examinations of Faculty of Commerce, they have to be conducted in six different faculties. This is because there aren’t enough classrooms in the faculty,” she said.
“If 80 % students start attending their classes, the university will not be able to manage them. The faculty simply does not have enough rooms where students can sit,” she said.
When a senate member tried to counter her, Mehta said teachers themselves do not conduct classes. “I know the ground reality much better than you all (senators). I am attending this senate meeting as my own teacher has not taken the class which was scheduled between 1.30pm and 2.30pm,” said Mehta, a student of Faculty of Science.
She even corrected senate member Jigar Inamdar, who had claimed that IISc, Bangalore had bagged a better ranking compared to MSU as the former does not run a bachelor’s programme.
