Giant Cameron to come under scrutiny for high hit
Greater Western Sydney star Jeremy Cameron is certain to come under scrutiny from the AFL's match review officer and could be referred straight to the AFL tribunal after a serious collision with Brisbane Lions defender Harris Andrews.
In an overhead marking contest, Cameron hit Andrews flush on the jaw with a raised elbow. Both players were airborne at the point of contact.
Andrews was aiming to spoil the ball, while Cameron did not appear to have eyes for it. Andrews was unconscious before he hit the turf and was bleeding from the mouth.
The MRO will surely assess the contact and impact as high. Cameron could only contest the intentionality of the contact. Cameron kicked the next goal by the Giants and was soundly booed by the Gabba crowd.
In his fourth year, Andrews has been arguably the Lions’ best player this season and is one of the competition’s top-ranked defenders.
