UP plans to set up pilgrimage centre at Garhmukteshwar

The State Government has plans to set up pilgrim centre at Garhmukteshwar of Hapur on the lines of Haridwar. Garhmuketshwar has the same significance for locals as Haridaw for the rest of the country.

The town on the banks of Ganga is proposed to be developed for eco-tourism, adventure tourism along with the availability of other facilities like river rafting and boating in order to promote tourism.

A presentation in this regard was made before Chief Secretary Rajiv Kumar on Friday. The Chief Secretary said that considering the convenience of pilgrims coming to Garhmukteshwar, bathing ghats should be developed on both sides of Ganges. Kumar said that the project for Garhmukteshwar whould also include development and promotion of local handicrafts and construction of raft markets, craft museum, arrangements to organize handicraft workshops. For the comfort of pilgrims visiting Garhmukteshwar, Ganga Haat and Tourist Centre, Heritage Walks, development of ecological park in Alamgirpur whould be included in the proposal. He also directed officials to initiate action regarding the foundation of wellness resort in Khandav Forest Adventure camp under Ayush Wellness Village. Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism and Information Avnish Kumar Awashthi and other senior officers of concerned departments were present during the meeting.  The Chief Secretary also directed for inspection of the developing work of various projects costing Rs 500 crore.
