LUCKNOW: The controversy over inter-faith couple in Lucknow and their
passport request has taken a new twist after UP police said on Saturday that the duo's credentials, including their past names, will be verified thoroughly following a request from MEA.
Tanvi Seth and her husband Anas Siddique had alleged that a passport office official in Lucknow, Vikas Mishra, had refused to entertain their forms while allegedly asking the man to convert to Hinduism and woman to use her maiden Hindu name.
The local intelligence unit (LIU) in Lucknow confirmed it has received a single page correspondence regarding their verification on Friday.
"We received the correspondence from the passport office in Lucknow on Friday. The present address and temporary address of both applicants will be duly verified. The LIU will submit in report only after due dillgence," said Radhey Shyam, CO, LIU. The LIU confirmed that their names and antecedents will be checked like all other passport applicants.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena on Saturday reached the governor house and the passport office to protest Mishra's transfer, while saying he only dared to question the woman's dual identity - a Muslim name in nikaahnama and Hindu name on Aadhar and passport.
